ACS Parade in lieu of Prom moved up to 6:30 p.m. Friday

A Fire Truck parade planned this Friday night (June 5) to celebrate the Akron Class of 2020, on what would have been their prom night, was moved to 6:30 p.m., from the original 20:20 military time start, late Tuesday, in response to a curfew in Erie County.

Assembly at 5:30 p.m. in the bus loop for those participating.  The parade is expected to last about 30-40 minutes to allow everyone to be home by curfew.

Fire companies that protect the families throughout the school district, including Akron, Newstead, Clarence Center, Rapids, Wolcottsville, Pembroke-Indian Falls, Alabama, Crittenden and Millgrove, will travel with lights and sirens through the Village.  An extended parade route will be followed that begins on Bloomingdale Avenue, then to John Street, John to Buell Street, Buell to Skyline Drive, Skyline to Crittenden Road, Crittenden to East Avenue, East to Main Street and finishing at the Akron Fire Hall.

Mr. Ricci and fellow administrators hope that many, many families will participate by coming out of their homes and remaining in their yards, to enjoy the spectacle! If you park along the route, please remain in your vehicle.  Of course, adherence to all social distancing mandates and guidelines set forth by state and county government and health departments is required.

Participating students, their families, and any others who wish to join the celebration, are encouraged to open up their closets or raid the attic for prom gowns or other formal attire and dress for this occasion!

In addition to the fire trucks, parade spectators can expect some surprise guests to join the firemen for this symbolic occasion.

Questions regarding the event may be directed to the High School Office of Akron Schools at (716)542-5030.

Additional information about other tributes to ACS seniors in light of COVID-19 restrictions can be found in the AKRON BUGLE on the school’s website at www.akronschools.org.
