Akron Central budget passes, Grant, Masse reelected

Akron Central School voters adopted the 2020-2021 budget of $33,696,592.00 and re-elected James Grant and Robert Masse to the board of education by absentee ballots counted on Tuesday, June 16, as the process was livestreamed.

The budget vote was passed 1024 YES and 449 NO.  Grant received 1127 votes, Masse 1044 votes.

Voters also authorized the purchase of school buses and similar vehicles (and related equipment)

for use in the transportation program of the District, including three (3) sixty-six (66)-passenger buses, at an estimated maximum cost of $116,000 each, and one (1) van-type bus, at an estimated maximum cost of $60,000 (with such estimated maximum cost reflecting the value of any trade-ins), at a total expenditure not to exceed $408,000.00, 1001 yes, 459 NO.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo had extended the deadline for the return of absentee ballots for the 2020 school district budget vote and board member election.  School budget ballots were accepted by hand delivery through 5:00 p.m. on June 9, 2020, but those also sent via United States Postal Service could be received by 5:00 p.m. on June 16, 2020.
