Akron Central joins with 13 other districts to survey community on re-entry into school buildings

Akron Central School District launched a survey on Tuesday, June 9 in conjunction with 13 other school districts.

A survey link was shared with district parents, staff, and students to gather data, feedback, and perspective from parents, staff, and students with a request for participation.

“Nearly every decision made regarding the COVID-19 pandemic response and associated requirements, restrictions, and regulations have been made and directed by Governor Cuomo, health officials, and other political leaders,” Superintendent of Schools Patrick D. McCabe wrote in a cover letter to the survey.

“As these officials continue to organize for the development of planning for the re-entry of students to school buildings, your voices need to be heard. Recently, 14 school districts in Erie County have joined to gather data, feedback, and perspective from our parents, staff, and students. We need to hear from you on this very important matter. When utilizing this survey platform, you will be able to read and offer valuable data, and contribute to the conversation by adding to the open-ended responses at the conclusion of the survey.”

“All participation in this exchange is anonymous. The survey closes on Friday, June 19 and results will be shared with our elected officials, state and regional committees, and other related associations so that they will have a more global understanding of the thoughts and ideas our community members have about returning to in-person schooling for the 2020-2021 school year,” McCabe wrote.

He encouraged everyone to use the link to share your thoughts and help evaluate the critical issues

There needs to be, at minimum, a mix of physical attendance at school to get to know teacher/student, along with virtual ed as needed to keep the class sizes small. And, consideration for working parents also has to be in the mix. But this year, if/when virtual learning is deemed necessary, students must be graded in the normal fashion so that attendance and homework is part of the grade.
I don’t feel wearing face masks is going to work for elementary students, possibly ok for HS.

If the school reopens and has to follow the list the CDC sent out i will homeschool my kids! They will not wear masks for 6 hrs a day, they will not be subjected to not being around their friends and being a normal child!
