Akron Cross-Country runners earn place in State competition

Akron Centralís Girls Cross-Country team and an individual member of the Boysí Cross Country team are on their way to State competition.

A number of administrators from an eight county region learned first hand from Akron students and faculty members how technology can enhance education in the classroom.


Chamber invites community to volunteer for upcoming events

The Akron Chamber of Commerce is soliciting volunteers to help in upcoming community events. Open slots for volunteers range in a short-term one project service, to more in depth and time consuming commitments. Co-Chair persons for such Chamber events such as Citizen of the Year dinner, Sidewalk Sale, Cruise Nights, Car Show, Phone Directory, and others are needed, as well as volunteers to handle various aspects of the events.

New York State has the 13th highest child poverty rate in the nation according to census data

New York State now has the thirteenth highest child poverty rate in the nation, up from 16th in 2002, according to a Children's Defense Fund - New York's analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data released earlier this year.


VA Health Care

Can you tell me about health care benefits for veterans? A friend of mine recently enrolled his 79-year-old father and, much to his surprise, got all his medications paid for. I am currently 59 and served in the Army Reserve many years ago and would like to find out what VA assistance I might be eligible for. This is something I never thought about. Can you help me?

Admit it. While Election night was both fascinating and labored, New Yorkers couldnít help but feel a little jealous. And a little left out.
