Tough swim schedule

Akron Central’s Varsity Boys Swim Team had two meets last week against Medina on Tuesday and Newfane on Thursday and will have two meets this week against Roy-Hart on Tuesday and Non-league meet at Alden on Thursday.


Spirit of Giving

Katie Tretter and Katlynn Akin present a check for $200 and groceries to the Akron/Newstead Food Pantry representative Shirley Domon. Akron Central School Student Council members organized a food drive for the Food Pantry which resulted in .the collection of 70 bogs of non-perishable items as well as financial donations. Students, faculty and staff in grades 9-12 contributed to the effort. Also presented was a check from the AKRON BUGLE in the amount of $250 from Student Council Homecoming insert proceeds this fall. Pixley’s ShurFine donated bags for packing of the groceries.


Luminara's for Christmas Eve

"Relay for Life" Christmas Eve Luminary Candles are for sale at various business places including Bank of Akron, Candy Apple Cafe, Mary's Good and Plenty, and Adesa sales, or you can call Dick and Wilma Beyer at 542-4148 or Kandy Palmeri at 681-7428 All are invited to light up Akron and Newstead with the Holiday Luminaries at 8:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve in memory of a loved one or in honor of someone that has won the battle against Cancer. The money will go towards The Relay for Life which will be held on June 4, 2005 at the Akron Central School athletic fields behind the school.


Sixtieth anniversary of wartime romance celebrated

Wilson and Eleanor Greatbatch of Akron, New York will celebrate their 60th anniversary January 1, 2005.


New officers installed

Newstead Volunteer Fire Company installed new officers for 2005 at their annual Installation dinner on December 4, 2004.
