A Special Mass was held at St. Joseph Cathedral in downtown Buffalo honoring recipients of the 2005 St. Joseph the Worker Award On April 24, 2005,. Mary Ann Schneider of St. Teresa’s Church in Akron received this special award from Bishop Edward U. Kmiec, Bishop of Buffalo for all of the work that she does for the parish and community.


Bridging Two Worlds focus of Akron hosted conference

“Bridging Two Worlds: Weaving Common threads” was the theme of a conference hosted at Akron Central School this spring.


Cruising in Akron

The first Akron Chamber of Commerce Cruise Night of the 2005 season was well attended last Thursday evening. Cars of every shape and vintage were on display with more expected each week. Akron Chamber Cruise nights are held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Main Street each Thursday. The shelter in Russell Park is available for groups to sell refreshments and sponsors and volunteers are needed. For information contact the Chamber office at 542-4050.


My corner is full so hang - on!!!

On Thursday morning my wife and I drove to New York City for a book signing at Kinokuniya Book Store in Rockefeller Center. Feb. 28 of this year I had a book released in Japan written in Japanese about the life of Dick Beyer, The Destroyer and Doctor X. Up until this time the Japanese people only knew The Destroyer. I thought it was time to let 150 Million people know about Dick Beyer and Dr. X.


Runners tapped as Athletes of the Week

Senior track and field athlete Matt Sherman is this week’s male athlete of the week. Over the course of this year’s track season, Matt has taken first place in both the shot put and discus in almost all of the team’s dual meets and has placed very high in each of the weekend invitationals.


Town and Village approve use of facilities for Fourth

The Akron Village board of Trustees and Newstead Town Board have approved use of Russell Park and the Town Park for various aspects of the annual Akron Fourth of July Celebration.
