Second Grade Science Curriculum to be infused with technology

Armed with brand new tablet style computers, multi-media projectors, digital cameras, and professional training; second grade teachers at Akron Elementary will be leading a Technology Infused Learning Experience in the area of physical science. The project proposal titled “TILE 2 Science” successfully navigated the grant competition resulting in the equipment and training grant from the Hewlett-Packard Company valued over $35,000; giving Akron teachers an opportunity to learn new skills while improving the quality of their student's science education.

Akron serviceman returns from Iraq

An eleven month tour of duty in Iraq ended September 16 for Newstead resident, Jim Dolph, who was enthusiastically welcomed home by family and friends on Friday evening.

Chicken and biscuits dinner to raise funds for hurricane relief

Ten Akron/Newstead congregations are raising funds to respond to the recent Hurricane Katrina disaster with a chicken and biscuit dinner.

The PTA would like to remind everyone that the book fair will be open during Open House on Thursday, September 22, and can be found on the second floor outside the media center (just around the corner from the fifth grade wing). The PTA will also be selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts outside the elementary office, be sure to stop by both events and support the PTA! Family Time Monday, September 26 has been designated “Family Day – A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children” by President George W. Bush. In 2001, the fourth Monday of September was designated as family day by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University as a national effort to promote family dinners as an effective way to reduce substance abuse among children and teens.

Newstead Public Library takes steps to supplement budget

Newstead Public Library doors remain open despite the loss of 16 The Buffalo and Erie County Public Library System libraries next year.
