Akron Girls Modified Soccer Team undefeated

The Akron Girls Modified Soccer Team finish their season undefeated with a record of 8 wins and 2 ties after defeating Albion on Friday October 21, 2005 and Medina on Monday October 24, 2005. This is Akron's first modified soccer team.


Community invited to Antiquities Fund-Raiser

Community members are invited to capture lasting memories of their children during an Antiquities photo fund-raiser, hosted by the Akron Parents' Association Nursery School on Friday, November 11 and Saturday, November 12 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church on Church and John Streets in Akron.

HALLOWEEN TRADITIONS continued in Akron this week as Akron Parents Association Nursery School students visited a number of local businesses which happily opened their doors to these young "trick or treaters".


International Night dinner to benefit Literacy Project

Rotary Club of Akron Newstead will hold their fourth Annual International Night Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, November 5, 2005. This year's dinner benefits the India Basic Literacy Project which provides primary education to children, especially girls, in areas in and around the city of Ranchi, India. Many impoverished children living in the slums and tribal areas of the city struggle to receive a proper education and due to financial conditions in the villages, basic literacy, hygiene and proper nutrition have been in short supply.


Newstead Candidates respond to AKRON BUGLE questions

Each local election the AKRON BUGLE asks candidates a series of questions, inviting their written response for publication. Answers are limited to 300 words per answer and are unedited, except for length, with an asterisk * appearing at the end of edited answers. Continued from last week, the following, in reverse alphabetical order, are candidates' answers to the final questions posed this year. The candidate's names appear at the conclusion of their response.

Varsity Field Hockey captures Niagara-Orleans Championship Title

Akron Central's varsity field hockey team secured crucial victories in each of its last three games to earn first place in the Niagara-Orleans League for the 2005 season. The final record for Akron's "Chicks with Sticks" team was 13-1-1, which was strong enough for the team to maintain possession of the league title.


Winners of 'Walk the Villages' prizes named

Despite the cold and rain, more than 50 people from the communities of Akron, Clarence, Kenmore, and Williamsville came together to mark the end of Walk the Villages for 2005. The wrap-up celebration was on October 22, 2005 at Island Park in Williamsville.
