Akron Fire Company and Auxiliary install officers

The Akron Fire Company and Auxiliary took time to recognize accomplishments and to install officers for 2003 on Saturday, March 15.

Promoting the community

A $5,000 check from the Erie County Legislature procured by Legislator Michael H. Ranzenhofer will help the Akron Chamber of Commerce promote the Akron/Newstead community.

Citizen of the Year celebration nears

The celebration honoring Akron Chamber of Commerce 2003 Citizen of the Year, Raymond J. Carlo, Jr. is set for Saturday, April 12 at the Newstead Fire Hall, Cummings Road.

Refuse rate adjusted to cover overhead

Village of Akron residents will see a higher refuse collection/disposal charge on their next bill. During a Special meeting on Monday, March 31, Trustees Charles Yaeger, Peter Forrestel and Carl Patterson voted to increase the rate from $28.29 per quarter to $30.00 per quarter to cover costs of billing and compost site staffing. The rate remains lower than the $34 a quarter charged prior to March 1, 2003.

School Board bringing budget with tax cap to voters

Akron Central School Board members will bring a $23,159,719 spending plan before district voters in May. The Board unanimously adopted the 2003-2004 budget at their March 26 meeting as recommended by the Akron Central School Budget Advisory Committee.
