The Akron Community Band opened their 2006 Summer Season Monday evening during the Akron Celebration Committee Fourth of July festivities in Russell Park.

EPIC enrollment event planned next week

EPIC, the New York State Senior Prescription Plan, and the Erie County Department of Senior Services are hosting an enrollment fair on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Maryvale Continuing Education Building, 777 Maryvale Drive - Rm. 202, in Cheektowaga (There is an elevator in the building for handicap access).

Hearing set on law to regulate sidewalk use

The Akron Village Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing to hear comments on a proposed law to regulate use of sidewalks next week.

The Akron Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with local business sponsors, has announced the summer lunchtime series of performances will return to the gazebo in Russell Park, Akron, New York on July 13.


New activity coming to Niagara County Fair

An Agritarium will be featured this year at the Niagara County fair. Described as an inflatable neon world, it will demonstrate the art of precision farming using GPS satellites. Inside, fair goers will be able to see models of satellites and farms, illuminated by a black light.

As the demand for electricity continues to grow in New York, placing an even greater demand on the state's electric grid, the New York State Public Service Commission and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority encourage state residents to be smart energy consumers and use power sensibly during the upcoming summer months.


Newstead Board opposes County's four-year plan

In a resolution adopted June 26, Board members noted that the four-year plan that would eliminate Sheriff road patrols, transfer county roads to local control, increase sales tax and increase county property tax, would cause an undue hardship on the Town of Newstead.
