Acting Mayor invites community to help clean up Russell Park

Acting Village of Akron Mayor Michael Middaugh is seeking volunteers to help clean-up Russell Park. Mayor Middaugh has issued an invitation to local organizations and individuals to grab their rakes and spend a few hours helping rake leaves and small sticks into the paved walkways for pickup by village crews.

DEC Announces $200,000 in funding to assist with tree restoration in WNY

ALBANY, NY -- (11/09/2006; 1340)(EIS) -- New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Denise M. Sheehan today announced $200,000 is being made available for local governments to implement long-term restoration efforts to help restore tree cover in areas that suffered significant damage to trees as a result of the unprecedented October snowstorm in Western New York.

Plans underway for annual Community Christmas

Plans are underway for this year's Community Christmas in Russell Park. The Akron Lioness organization is working with the Village of Akron, Akron Central School Band, Akron Area Girl Scouts, Akron Area Boy Scouts, Akron Chamber of Commerce, Akron Fire Company, and Akron Elementary School Chorus are joining together to continue this holiday tradition on Saturday, December 9, 2006.

Town Board adopts 2007 budget

The Newstead Town Board adopted a 2007 spending plan at their regular meeting on November 13.
