Break-in at Akron Pharmacy under investigation

Information is still sought in an ongoing investigation of a break-in at Akron Pharmacy on March 14. Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reported that the Sheriff’s Office is investigating two incidents that occurred early Friday in two area pharmacies and Detective Michael Dalfonso confirmed the investigation is moving forward in an interview Tuesday.


Chamber names 2008 Citizen and Business of the Year recipients

The Akron Chamber of Commerce has announced the recipients of the 2008 Citizen of the Year and Business of the Year awards. Greg Brown will be honored as Citizen of the Year and Bedford’s Greenhouse as Business of the Year at a dinner at the Newstead Fire Hall, Cummings Rd., Akron, New York on April 12. (Post publication note: The dinner has been changed to April 26. Same time and location.)


Work over the last three years to tighten up the Village of Akron sewage collection system seems to be working.

Trustee Peter Forrestel and VRI representative Ken Scherrieble shared with Village Board members Monday night, that in spite of four inches of rain and significant snow melt in February, the wastewater treatment plant stayed below their permit limits. “Our work on I and I is working, “ Mr. Sherrieble noted. “We have finished with the critical areas and are now going through the entire system. Efforts to identify downspout and other illegal connections to the sanitary sewer collection system surfaced some at the wastewater treatment plant itself, all of which have been corrected.
