Akron Central budget passes, three new members elected to Board

The Akron Central School District budget passed Tuesday, and three new members were elected to the Board of Education. A total of 895 voters cast their ballots with 474 supporting the budget and 400 voting no on the $28,958,370 spending plan. Phillip Kenline received 563 votes, Mark Bramley 547 votes, Dave Penn 514 and Richard Hegmann 473.

Akron Sports baseball field named in memory of Tyler Gabbey

In a solemn and meaningful ceremony last Saturday morning, Akron Sports unveiled a sign renaming Akron Field #1 Gabbey Field #6.

Pelton named Assistant Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds

The Akron Central School District has an Assistant Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for the first time in its history. The Board of Education appointed maintenance mechanic crew chief Nigel Pelton to the position during the May 11 workshop and business meeting. The position will fall under the leadership of school business administrator Cynthia Tretter. Because there was no Civil Service list associated with the position, there was an open opportunity for qualified candidates to apply. Mr. Pelton assumed the new position on May 12.

Residents request single sidewalk on Chestnut

Six residents appeared before the Village Board in support of removing a requirement to have sidewalks on the south side of Chestnut Street.
