Middle School drama club presents ‘Under the big top’

A circus big top is the setting for the Akron Middle School Drama Club’s play production of “Under the Big Top” by Martin Follose. Two evening performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on November 18 and 19, 2010, in the school’s new multi-purpose room located at the front of the school, 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, near the auditorium which is currently closed due to renovations. The smaller venue provides an intimate “black box” theatre experience with limited seating for each performance night.


Ribbon cutting at Ford Gum and Machine celebrates start-tup of BIG LEAGUE CHEW

A ribbon cutting ceremony at Ford Gum and Machine Company in Akron on Monday had all the elements of a great community party. Balloons, gumball machines, and baseball decorations filled the room outside of the new area where BIG LEAGUE CHEW will be packaged. Ford Gum employees, neighboring Akron business owners, government officials, suppliers, bankers, and the media joined in the celebration.


School-related professionals to be recognized November 16

Akron Central school-related professionals and their counter-parts around New York State will be recognized on November 16, 2010 which is School-Related Professionals Day in New York State. The third Tuesday in November is designated by the state Legislature as a special statewide recognition day for School-Related Professionals, a result of a resolution that was signed into law in 2007 and renewed yearly.

Town Board to revisit proposed dog related laws

Proposed Town of Newstead laws relating to proposed dog and kennel licensing regulations will be revised and additional public comment sought. Monday night’s Town of Newstead Public hearing on Local Law 6 dealing with licensing of individual dogs and on Local Law 7 dealing with kennel licenses drew a standing room only audience.
