Budget Advisory Committee requests more information

Akron Central School Budget Advisory Committee members requested more information before forming a recommendation for the Board of Education on the district budget for next year. The BAC’s request came following their first look at a projected budget for the 2011-2012 school year, including suggested staffing and program cuts, during a meeting Monday night, April 4.

One hundred percent of the money raised at a chicken barbecue and 5K run in Akron this weekend will go directly to those impacted by the earthquake in Japan . Through our 'family' and friends in Japan we have identified organizations that will use the money to help victims. Needs in Sendai are estimated at $20,000/week. We also have access to a few links so if someone wanted to make a significant tax deductible donation, they could do that. Information is also available on an Animal rescue organization.

One Door Closes, Another One Opens…

The Fall 2010- Spring 2011 Season for the Town of Newstead Recreation Department ended last week, marking the close of another successful season! However as one door closes, another one opens… The Rec. Dept. will now start planning for its flagship program - Summer REC. The only year round program that continues uninterrupted is the Morning Lap Swim Program.

Seniors carry Tigers title hopes

Five retuning seniors, including 2010 First Team All Niagara-Orleans League pitcher Zach Jordon, carry the Akron Tigers Varsity baseball hopes this spring as the program strives for its first league title since 1975 With two sophomores and two freshman promoted from the Junior Varsity, the Tigers will lean heavily on their seniors especially for pitching.

Village of Akron unveils proposed budget

Akron Village Clerk-Treasurer Daniel D. Borchert presented a tentative 2011-2012 Village budget of $128,131,548.00 at Monday’s Village Board meeting. The tentative budget tax rate maintains a flat rate of $5.87 per thousand, according to Mr. Borchert who also noted the refuse rate will stay the same at $46.00 per quarter based on the current contract.
