Akron Central School residents will elect two Board of Education members and vote on the 2015-2016 district budget from noon until 9:00 p.m. next Tuesday, May 19 in gym number 3. About ten residents took advantage of an opportunity to attend a budget hearing and meet the candidates night on May 12.

Calvary Baptist celebrates 75th anniversary this weekend

Calvary Baptist Church members and friends are looking forward to this coming weekend with great anticipation as they celebrate the church’s 75th anniversary with several special activities. A musical concert on Friday evening, May 15, arranged and performed by the worship praise team and church musicians starts off the special events. A dessert buffet fellowship follows the concert. A Homecoming picnic is planned for Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Countdown to 2015 Summer Recreation registration begins

With the advent and success of a new on-line system last year, this Summer families and individuals will again have the opportunity to register on-line at newsteadrec.com instead of standing in line at Town Hall. Whether on-line or in-line, registration for Newstead Summer 2015 Recreation Programs, scheduled from July 7th through August 15th, will begin on Monday, June 1 at 8 a.m.

Enforcement of Village of Akron ordinances emphasized

Increased enforcement of existing Village of Akron ordinances is planned effective immediately. Akron Police Department has issued a warning to residents and business owners that following several complaints regarding two-hour parking on Main Street, village police officers are actively enforcing the regulation of no more than two hour parking in the business district on Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Ladies Track Team breezes past Roy-Hart

The ladies track team competed against Roy-Hart last week and beat them 115.5 to 25.5. The ladies were on fire and unstoppable, the team swept seven events and placed first in all the events but two. “That is pretty impressive to say the least,” Coach Bennett said. “The craziest part about all of this is the Akron team had 10 athletes missing due to sickness or injuries.”

Mustangs edge Tigers to earn League Crown

The Medina Mustangs clinched at least a tie for their first Niagara-Orleans Baseball League title in 20 years as they edged the Akron Tigers 3-2 under the lights at Vets Park on May 8.
