Akron Fourth of July celebration 'Powered Up' with entertainment, food, and fun

Akron's Russell Park and Main Street area will fill with the sounds of a "Flash of Brass", classic tunes spun by a DJ, patriotic music played by the Akron Community Band, marching bands, Country, Rock, and Gospel as the Fourth of July Celebration unfolds this week. Entertainment, food, games, and rides are all part of a "Powered Up" Fourth of July celebration. Rides and Concessions are open in Russell Park, Main Street, Akron from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, and 12 noon to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. July 3, 4, and 5.


Area businesses and organizations provide awards for Akron students

Area organizations and businesses made a variety of awards and scholarships available to Akron Central High School seniors each year. A listing of some of those awards and the Akron students receiving them this year follows:


Five Hour Course Offered at ACS

Akron Community Education is offering a Five Hour pre-licensing course on Monday, July 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.


Newstead Democratic Committee announces endorsements

The Newstead Democratic Committee announced their endorsed candidates for the upcoming November election include Myra Hegmann and Louise Ribbeck for the Newstead Town Board.


Public to have input in new Parkview bridge

The Akron-Newstead community will have input in the design of a new Parkview Drive bridge later this summer.


Summer Enrichment Program provides choral performance opportunity

Community Education and the 21st Century Grant project are sponsoring a summer chorus through the Summer Enrichment program at ACS this summer.
