Music of Irish pubs and county fairs featured in Russell Park

Those attending the third performance of the 2003 Russell Park Midday Summer Series will be treated to a variety of selections based on Irish tunes and county fair music.

Fields Becoming Fields

A project to turn 25 acres of farmland into sports fields and a drainage system for Akron Central Schools is well underway. Large equipment pushes tons of dirt to facilitate the new land use. Akron Central School District residents approved purchase of the land in May of 2002 and bids for its development were awarded this spring.

"SAVVY SENIOR" - Funeral Shock

Last March I had to make funeral arrangements for my uncle who died after a long illness. Like many people, I had never made funeral arrangements before and was very surprised and overwhelmed by the funeral director and all the cost.

Assistance needed as Cruise Night continues

Akron Chamber of Commerce will continue to sponsor Cruise Night on Main Street each Thursday evening, weather permitting, throughout the remainder of the summer.

Board seeking more signs at hazardous intersection

Responding to a request from a Town resident and a history of accidents at Stage Road and North Millgrove, the Newstead Town Board is seeking enhanced signage at that intersection.

Clinton joins Senate Democrats to introduce legislation to protect Head Start

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton today joined with her Democratic Colleagues, Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT), Edward Kennedy (D-MA), Patty Murray (D-WA), Jack Reed (D-RI), and Tom Harkin (D-IA) at a press conference to announce legislation to protect the Head Start program nationwide. The Head Start Readiness and Coordination Act would reauthorize this vital program through 2008. Head Start helps more than 50,000 New York families each year including students at the Holy Cross Akron Center.
