Village Mill Street electric substation landmark demolished

The Mill Street Substation building was demolished last week. The substation building, out of service since the new substation was constructed on Eckerson Ave., had been used for storage in recent years.

Plant for Hope

PLANT FOR HOPE brings many together for a good cause. Bedford’s Greenhouse, 6820 Cedar St. hosted their annual “Plant For Hope” and Roswell Park Fund Raiser on Saturday, May 15. Many stopped by to enjoy and purchase beautiful flowers at the greenhouse as well as a variety of items displayed by crafters taking part in the fundraiser. A Chinese Auction was held and kid’s activities included face painting, throw games, mascots, bounce house. All of the funds raised during this one-day event will be donated to patients at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in memory of Barbara Vaccaro. Those unable to stop in Saturday still have an opportunity to help raise funds for cancer research at Roswell Park by stopping by Bedford’s to pick up a “Plant for Hope”. Mary Jo and Steve Bedford appreciated the many customers who stopped by to help in this effort. The new buildings at Bedford’s proved to be a wonderful setting to brighten a dreary day.

Class of '39

THE AKRON CENTRAL SCHOOL CLASS OF 1939 got together on Tuesday afternoon to catch up with each other and reminisce. Town of Newstead and Village of Akron Historian, and former ACS Teacher and Assistant Principal was guest speaker for the special occasion. All those gathered had a good time sharing information and memories, as well as enjoying a meal together.

Committee formed to explore inter-municipal public works facility

Representatives from the Newstead Town Board and Village of Akron Board of Trustees will explore the possibility of constructing an inter-municipal public works facility.

Town and Village begin process for drainage district formation

The Newstead Town Board and Village Board of Trustees have started the process to form a Town-wide Drainage District.

Voters pass Akron Central School District budget

Akron Central School District voters passed a $23,396,176.00 budget for 2004-2005 on Tuesday. Of 647 voters who signed in 511 voted “Yes” on the budget and 129 voted “No”.
