Irish traditions woven into Kasperek/Finucane wedding

Karlyn Marie Kasperek and Timothy John Finucane were united in marriage in a double ring ceremony at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Amherst on May 15, 2004 at two o’clock in the afternoon.


Jessica Rusnell scores winning goal in Akron Soccer action

Jessica Rusnell, scored the winning goal in a Division III matchup between the Cool Cats and Hornets in Akron Soccer League action on Saturday. Jessica was beautifully fed the ball by Tyler Penberthy, following a perfectly executed play on an indirect kick deep in the Hornets defensive area.


Senior Prank

Akron Central School seniors had an interesting welcome for students on the last day of classes. This “monster” and a monster-sized senior lounge was carefully arranged on the front lawn of school.


Former Akron resident commissioned a Lt. Colonel

Dawn (Stevens) Ross was commissioned as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army in a ceremony at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. on May 10, 2004.


Akron Relay for Life sets new record

The Fifth Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life at Akron Central School ended with record results. Local residents have raised more than $60,000 so far to support the fight against cancer.

Two Rattles to Reading pre-school graduates have a conversation as they prepare to share some of the information and skills they learned over the school year.


Adding color to Main St.

The Village of Akron Electric Department took time to hang flower baskets along Main Street last week adding a touch of color in time for last Saturday’s annual Akron Chamber of Commerce Sidewalk Sale. The baskets are a joint project of the Akron Lioness Organization and Akron Chamber of Commerce. They are planted in the early spring and cared for at D.C. Holmes Greenhouses until ready to be put in place for the summer months.

The Erie County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board and interested persons participated in a tour of agricultural sights in the Clarence-Newstead Agricultural District on Tuesday.
