Newstead Town Board members voted Monday night to hire Wendel to provide Immersion and Concept Design Services for a potential project to construct a community center in the Town of Newstead for the cost of $51,500 plus $500 for reimbursable expenses billed on a time and expense basis. A proposal for the design and future construction of a Community Center for Town of Newstead residents was presented at the Newstead Town Board meeting Monday night. After conversations, Town Board members determined that it is essential to solicit opinions and input from the residents of the Town of Newstead with regards to the planned design and future construction of a Community Center in the community. Akron Central School Board of Education members officially appointed Andrea Kersten the new Superintendent of Schools for the District during their meeting Wednesday, January 24. Newstead Town Board members made appointments, set policies, and adopted a meeting calendar during their 2024 organizational meeting on January 2. Regular meetings Regular meetings of the Newstead Town Board continue on the second and fourth Monday of each month in 2024. Work sessions preceding each Board Meeting begin at 6:45 p.m., with the regular meeting beginning at 7:30 p.m. Work sessions are scheduled the first and third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. when not conflicting with a holiday. Akron Cheerleaders awarded Sportsmanship Award
Akron Central’s competition cheerleading squad completed a busy schedule with honors during the first week of February. They attended the Attica Winter Wonderland Classic on Sunday, February 4 where the team had zero deductions (Hit Zero) for the first time this season and finished 2nd in their division. The stunt group of Madelyn Monkelbaan, Olivia Asmus, Amelia Ewing and Morgan Maggiore took a second place finish in the stunt-off. The team took the mat again on Wednesday, February 7, this time up in Newfane for the Niagara Orleans All League Competition. The squad again Hit Zero and finished 2nd overall

Letter to the Editor I am writing this letter as a caution to our town and village residents, as well as all residents that live in small rural communities all over Western New York. This topic affects everyone that lives in a small town or village community that is lucky enough to still have a local newspaper. I hear almost daily in my office from residents “I didn’t know that was happening” or “How come no one told us about this?” Typically, the response back from me or our employees is “Well it was advertised in the local paper.” You
