Newstead up 51 COVID-19 cases in past week

Town of Newstead/Village of Akron Emergency Manager, Dan Kowalik, shared Monday that confirmed COVID-19 cases in the 14001 zip code continued to rise over the past week, adding another 51 since his last update, bringing the total to 160 positive since March, almost triple the rise in cases reported in the previous seven days.

Kowalik reminds local residents they need to be smart over the next several weeks and follow the recommendations being sent forth by the local health officials.  “We don’t want to put more stress on the First Responders and health staff workers in our areas,” Kowalik said.
