Road patrols make DWI and mushroom arrests over weekend




Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports several arrests made over the weekend for incidents associated with driving while intoxicated and controlled substances including two in Newstead
February 5; Town of Colden - Deputies Jones and Barbaritz were dispatched to Knapp Road for a vehicle off the roadway.  Deputies located the driver who appeared intoxicated and transported the operator to the Springville Substation where field sobriety tests and a breath test were administered.  The tests indicated level of intoxication and the Deputies arrested a 19-year-old male of Orchard Park, for DWI, speeding, and additional vehicle and traffic violations.
February 5; Town of Clarence - Deputy Richard responded to calls of a suspicious vehicle along Goodrich Road.  The Deputies search ended in a cemetery when he observed two vehicles parked near the rear of the property.  As the Deputy approached the first vehicle he saw it was occupied by two females.  While the Deputy was talking with the subjects, he detected a strong odor of marijuana and a subsequent search of the vehicle discovered a marijuana cigarette and a bag of marijuana. A 21-year-old female of Lockport, and 23-year-old female of Lockport were arrested and issued appearance tickets for Unlawful possession of marijuana.
February 5; Town of Elma - Deputies Stott and Mulhern stopped a vehicle on Seneca Road after they observed it driving on the shoulder of the road.  After Deputies administered tests, it was determined a 40-year-old male of East Aurora, had a blood alcohol content above the legal limit and was arrested and charged with DWI and driving on the shoulder.  The defendant was released to a sober third party and faces a future court appearance in Elma Town Court.
February 5; Town of Newstead - After observing a vehicle failing to maintain its lane, Deputy Zamorek initiated a traffic stop.  The Deputy's investigation resulted in the arrest of a 33-year-old female of Corfu, for DWI and failing to maintain the designated lane of travel.  During the investigation, the Deputies discovered a package of illegal mushrooms and charged the passenger a 31-year-old male of Corfu - for criminal possession of a controlled substance. The male was released on appearance tickets.
February 6; Town of Clarence - Deputy Orlowski was responding to a traffic complaint was he observed a vehicle matching the description provided by complainants traveling on Main Street. Deputy Orlowski observed the suspected vehicle cross over the double yellow line, turned on his overhead emergency lights and tried to initiate a traffic stop.  The operator failed to pull over for the Sheriff's vehicle and continued to swerve.  Finally, the vehicle pulled over and an investigation was initiated.  It was discovered the operator's license - a 20-year-old female of Clarence - was suspended  The subject was administered field sobriety tests and a breathalyzer and it was determined her blood alcohol content was above the legal limit.  Subsequently, she was arrested and charged with DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation, and for an unsafe lane change.  The defendant was released to a sober third party and is scheduled to be in Clarence Town Court in March.
February 6; Town of Colden - During a traffic stop for speeding, Deputies Mulhern and Bouton arrested a 23-year-old male of Fenton, Michigan, for DWI and refusing a breath test.  The subject was released on appearance tickets and has a future court date in Colden Town Court.
