Akron Central investigating ‘no immediate threat of harm’

Akron Central School notified families and staff Tuesday afternoon that the school administration and trained counselors are currently working with the Akron Police Department to investigate an allegation that a middle school student made a threat of violence toward the school

The notification stated that information gathered during this investigation indicates that there is no immediate threat of harm to the school community and Akron students are safe.

“We intend to dismiss school at the normal time today and will continue to have additional police presence as a precautionary measure. Parents who wish to pick their children up may do so, but will not be allowed to enter the building,” the statement says.

“This matter is of the utmost importance to all of us and we appreciate the cooperation of the families involved during the investigation. The District intends to pursue this matter fully, using all applicable resources including, but not limited to, working with law enforcement, the judicial system, and the student discipline process.”

The District takes all threats seriously and encourages all members of the school community to report them to us immediately. The District will pursue legal action against those making threats against the school – regardless of the intent of those making the threats.
