Commemorative 250 Coins offered at Museum tour

The Newstead Historical Society is giving Commemorative Coins to the first 100 people to take a tour of their museums on the Fourth of July. Food, Music, and Fireworks on tap July 3 Activities and Parades on July 4

Akron Community Band will present their Friday night concert in Veterans Park, Buell Street, Akron beginning at 7 p.m. on July 3.  They will share several patriotic pieces prior to the Akron Celebration Committee Fireworks.  Food Vendors will serve a variety of items in Veterans Park from 5 to 9 p.m.   Fireworks begin after dusk. Newstead Town Board amends Solar Law and adopts Cell Phone Policy at their June 22 meeting

Moving forward Town tax payments require exact change

Residents who want to pay their taxes in cash at the Newstead Town Hall will need to do so in exact change moving forward.  Newstead Town Board members voted to require cash tax payments to be made for the exact amount owed only during their April 13 meeting.  The action came so that the Town could continue to accept cash payments for the benefit of residents, regardless of the availability of pennies. Town of Newstead receives 5 million in federal funding for community center

Congressman Nick Langworthy, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer, and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand recently announced $5,000,000 in federal Community Project Funding for the Town of Newstead to construct a new, state-of-the-art Community Center that will serve residents of all ages and strengthen the town’s long-term quality of life, accessibility, and emergency preparedness.  The funding was included as part of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Consolidated Appropriations bill signed into law last week.

Town of Newstead has one contested race in the current election

Town of Newstead voters have several seats to fill in the current election with early voting underway at various locations including the lower level of the Akron Village Hall, Main Street and your designated polling place on election day, November 4, 2025, however, only one is contested.  Two candidates are seeking the position of Town of Newstead Highway Superintendent, incumbent Michael Bassennello and Gary Baehr, a veteran member of the Town Highway Department.
