The Village of Akron has announced that due to an unauthorized test flush performed by contractors at the Akron Central School sports stadium project site, an excessive amount of water was used in a short period of time this afternoon. This event could cause temporarily discolored water in areas of the Village but is expected to pass soon. As always, the village appreciates your patience.

The Village of Akron has issued the following statement relative to the planned village wide electrical outage in September. Attention: CANCELLATION of Planned Electric Outage The New York Power Authority has officially postponed the planned electrical outage that was scheduled for September 12-13 and September 19-20 due to conflicts with National Grid. New Dates will be submitted for Village approval, possibly Spring/Fall of 2027.

Work on eleven Village of Akron streets is set to begin today, August 20. Westgate Ave, Shepard Ave, Sunset Blvd, Sunrise Blvd, Sylvan Pkwy, and Crescent Dr. will be micro-milled between August 20 and August 24, 2026 with paving set to begin on August 31, 2026. Stoneridge Ln, Flint St, Upper John St, Monroe St, and Colony Pl. are only scheduled for micro-paving. By Anne Santor The Westshore Farmers Market brings a variety of local vendors and items to Russell Park every Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. alongside Cruise Night. The West Shore Farmers Market began in 2021 on Eckerson Ave. in the area where the West Shore railroad formerly ran and was held every Sunday. The location of the market on Eckerson did not bring in enough customers to retain vendors so the decision was made to move to Russell Park and continue on Sundays. The change did not adequately increase the customer base, so the Market moved to Thursday

Village of Akron reports that the leak in Erie County Akron Falls Park has been repaired. All paused water services have been resumed. Discolored water is to be expected as pressure is restored to the distribution system. They thank everyone for their patience. The Village of Akron water department repaired a large water leak within the Erie County Akron Falls Park which occurred earlier in the day.

The Newstead Historical Society is giving Commemorative Coins to the first 100 people to take a tour of their museums on the Fourth of July. They invite everyone in the community to join them for any or all of their activities this weekend. Akron Community Band will present their Friday night concert in Veterans Park, Buell Street, Akron beginning at 7 p.m. on July 3. The Village of Akron announced yesterday that in the last few days, the Village water system needed to adjust flows outside of a normal range which stirred up water in the transmission main between Akron’s water treatment plant and distribution system in the village. DPW staff flushed hydrants throughout the day, and Erie County Health Department was briefed on the situation. Surveillance samples were taken to the public health lab on May 20.
