Village of Akron continues addressing discoloration of water

The Village of Akron announced yesterday that in the last few days, the Village water system needed to adjust flows outside of a normal range which stirred up water in the transmission main between Akron’s water treatment plant and distribution system in the village. DPW staff flushed hydrants throughout the day, and Erie County Health Department was briefed on the situation. Surveillance samples were taken to the public health lab on May 20. Extreme Cold warning issued

Dan Kowalik, Emergency Manager, Town of Newstead/Village of Akron, has asked that the following Advisories be shared with local residents. Light to moderate snow will overspread the region today, February 6. having the potential for snow squalls tonight. Lake effect snow will develop Saturday south of Lake Ontario and linger into Sunday. Additionally, frigid air and gusty winds will arrive tonight and last into Saturday, with the cold air to linger throughout the weekend. Discoloration of Village of Akron water possible

Due to the ongoing severe cold temperatures, there has been a water main break within the Village of Akron water system. The Village Public Works Department has located the break and are working towards a solution. The break has created turbulence in the lines causing the occurrence of temporarily discolored water due to sediment in the pipes. There is not a boil notice in place at this time. The Village thanks residents for their patience.

New Flagpole

Village of Akron personnel took advantage of the break in weather on Wednesday to begin installing a new flagpole in Russell Park. The new pole will fly an American Flag most of the year and will be used for the annual New Year’s Eve ball drop, replacing the crane currently used. A new ball is being fabricated which will be lighter and easier to use than the wrecking ball which has dropped to welcome in the new year for many years.
