Akron Central names Athletes of the Week

The Akron Central High School winter sports season for the 2020-21 school year has finally begun!  The Akron Tigersharks are back in the pool and the first sport to begin competing, albeit in the most unusual way.  Each team holds events in their home pool as simultaneously as possible and times are shared to determine race winners, places and overall meet winners.  A referee is present at each school pool.

Akron Schools is pleased to announce that Sarah Kidder and Emma Corbett, both on the varsity girls swim team, have been selected Tiger Athletes of the Week.

Sophomore Sarah Kidder has a fight in her that does not come natural to most, according to Coach Danielle Dembrow.

 “I can always depend on Sarah to fight for every point that she earns and give each race everything she has,” said Miss Dembrow.  “To win as a team, the team needs athletes that have a good work ethic, are dedicated, willing to listen and improve, and give each race everything – and Sarah exemplifies this. She is truly a remarkable athlete and young lady, who has made huge strides since last year.  I’m so excited to see where she goes as a swimmer with this season and upcoming seasons

Sarah swam the 100 freestyle and was a member of the 200 and 400 freestyle relays in the Lady Tigersharks’ 103-65 win against Medina.

Also selected Athlete of the Week is junior Emma Corbett. In the meet against Medina, Emma swam the 200 Individual Medley, 100 breaststroke, and 200 Medley Relay.

“Emma is an athlete that always goes above and beyond and, like Sarah, she will fight and give each race everything she has,” commented Coach Dembrow. “Emma is a versatile swimmer that will compete in any event without question and with grace, determination and strength. Though it may not be her event, I can always depend on Emma to do her best in the best interest of the team. Her hard work and dedication is rare and truly admirable. I’m happy to have her on the team for this season and next.”
