Akron Central School announces Community Education offerings
Akron-Newstead Community Education has announced its year-long offerings which include use of the ACS Fitness Center and Hall Walking. The programs run from September 6, 2022 through June 16, 2023.
With the impact of the pandemic on school facility use diminished, the Fitness Center re-opened to residents this past spring. Akron’s own Fitness Center is available at a fraction of the cost of other gyms that are 15 minutes away. In recent years, the facility has been expanded and new equipment has been added.
Community members can register to use the Fitness Center which is open Monday through Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m.to 11:00 a.m. on Saturdays. New registrants must attend an equipment orientation offered on Mondays and Wednesdays between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. prior to working out independently. The minimum age for enrollment is 18. The annual registration fee for use of this facility includes the equipment orientation. Senior citizens are eligible for a discounted membership and renewal memberships are also discounted. There is also the option to register for a half year that runs from January 30 through June 16, 2023.
The halls of Akron Central School are open for walking, too. There is no charge for this activity, but hall walkers must register once per calendar year for security purposes. Hall walking passes are available from the Office of Educational Services and Special Education (RM H-195) during regular office hours. You can walk from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Passes are good through June 16, 2023.
Additional information and registration forms are available on the school’s website at www.akronschools.org/comed or are available for pick-up at the Office of Educational Services and Special Education, Room H-195, 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, during regular office hours. Any applicable fees must be paid prior to the start of a class.
