Akron Central School closed until April 20, March 18 board meeting postponed

Akron Central School is closed until April 20 and the March 18 Board meeting is currently postponed until March 25.

The School Website and contact system is keeping parents and students updated with information.

Elementary, Middle, and High School buildings have developed a plan to provide continuity of instruction while the school remain closed. They are also working on the logistics to arrange for safe pick up of only essential materials and supplies.

Each building will send out specific instructions for picking up educational resources.

Elementary School: In the Elementary building, teachers are working diligently to create plans which allow children to review critical skills and strategies which have been previously taught throughout the year.

Students in grades Kindergarten, Fourth, and Fifth were sent home with their chromebooks on Friday (unless they were absent or dismissed early). The district is currently coordinating plans for collection and distribution of chromebooks for First Grade, Second Grade, and Third Grade.

Students may be asked to complete their assignments using websites such as IXL, RazKids, NewsELA, or other websites students regularly use in class. They are also compiling a list of additional educational websites which can be accessed at home. This list of elementary websites will be posted on the elementary homepage link, “Virtual Learning Academic Resources,” on the left menu.

Middle School: Students in grades 6-8 will be given supplemental educational materials to study and practice at home. The supplemental materials will contain a combination of paper based and computer based (Chromebook) work. Any time school is closed, one of the most important skills you can apply to remain academically sharp is to read. Reading activates the brain and enhances learning. Please refer to the Akron website for a list of educationally appropriate websites that may benefit your son or daughter.

Recommended supplemental student assignments will be posted on the school website.

High School: At the high school level a plan is being developed for students in grades 9-12 to be given supplemental educational materials to study and practice at home. The supplemental materials will contain a combination of paper based and/or computer based (Chromebook) work.

In addition, many teachers are providing assignments to assist in new learning in preparation for Regents or AP Exams. Please refer to the Akron website for a list of educationally appropriate websites that may benefit your son or daughter. On the Akron website, recommended supplemental student assignments will be posted.
