Akron Lions Club Avenue of Flags fundraiser well received
The Akron Lions Club new program, Avenue of Flags, which offers residents with an opportunity to express their patriotism while supporting the local community was well received for Memorial Day. Flags flying throughout the Village of Akron greeted those arriving for Memorial Day observances as well as those walking, biking, and driving through the community.
Lions Club members donated the flags that flew in front of Akron Central School and others donated the flags that bordered Russell Park.
Those still wishing to help support the Akron Lions Club by participating in the program have time to sign up before Flag Day and the Fourth of July. The forty-dollar donation, a 3′ x 5′ American flag on a 10-foot flagpole will be prorated for the four remaining national holidays: Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Veterans Day.
The flags will be installed early in the morning and taken down at dusk. Akron Lions Cub volunteers are responsible for replacement, repair, and storage of the flags.
“Through your patriotism and generosity, the Akron Lions Club will be able to continue to award funds to youth groups, other local not-for-profits, and fund additional service projects in the community,” an Akron Lions spokesperson shares.
