Akron-Newstead Garden Walk Set for July 20
The Akron-Newstead Garden Walk is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event features 11 private gardens and two public gardens, offering visitors a chance to explore the beauty and history of Akron and Newstead, New York.
Participants can begin their tour at the Akron Falls Rock Garden. This serene garden includes a small pond and shade gardens against the backdrop of the tranquil Akron Falls Park, providing a perfect spot for reflection and inspiration.
Another highlight is the gardens at the historic Rich-Twinn Octagon House. Built in the 19th century, this architectural gem is surrounded by lush gardens that transport visitors to a bygone era.
In addition to these public gardens, the walk includes a variety of private gardens throughout the village and surrounding areas. From charming cottage gardens to modern landscapes, these private gardens reflect the creativity and passion of local gardeners.
Printed maps and additional information will be available at Bedford’s Greenhouse, Pixley’s Shur Fine, Martin’s Mercantile, and CW Native Plant Farm. The Akron-Newstead Garden Walk is a free, self-guided event, perfect for a leisurely summer day.
The event is presented by CW Native Plant Farm and Akron Lady Lions, with additional sponsorship from Bedford’s Greenhouse, Pixley’s Shur Fine, Martin’s Mercantile, and Akron Optical. A portion of the sponsorship fund will be donated to the Newstead Historical Society.
