Akron/Newstead Senior Center phasing in programing
The Akron/Newstead Senior Center, Cummings Road, Akron re-opened on July 8 with new restrictions. The temporary hours are:
- Monday: 8 to 4 p.m.
- Tuesday: 8 to 4 p.m.
- Wednesday: 8 to 4 p.m.
- Thursday 8 to 7 p.m.
- Friday: 8 to 4 p.m.
- No Saturday hours
Programs and activities will be slowly introduced with adherence to the following guidelines required:
- Facemasks are required while in all common areas of the building
- Social distancing
- Hand sanitizing or washing of hands upon entering and exiting the building
- Temperatures will be checked
- A sign in log upon entering the building
At this time, no large gatherings or trips will be scheduled. All trips have been postponed along with card games, use of the exercise room, computer room, library room and no outside food will be shared.
The following programs/activities are scheduled.
Movie Matinees
Movie Matinees are planned with a maximum 24 attendees, as follow: Tuesday, July 28 at 12:45 p.m.: FORD VS. FERRARI.
A few more activities:
Meal service program: Wednesday, July 22 and July 29 at 12 noon. You must sign up ahead of time. Maximum number of attendees will be 40.
Chicken Barbecue
No basket raffle is planned this year but a drive through Chicken Barbecue will be held on Saturday, August 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. One basket worth $150.00 will be raffled. The basket will include lottery cards and gift cards to local restaurants.
AARP SMART DRIVER CLASS
AARP has made the difficult decision to cancel all sponsored in-person events and activities through the end of 2020, which includes AARP Driver Safety events, to minimize COVID-19 exposure.
