COVID clinic at Akron/Newstead Senior Center vaccinates 250 local residents

250 people in the community received  their Covid19 vaccine at the Akron-Newstead Senior Center on Friday, April 9 at the Akron/Newstead COVID vaccination clinic at the Akron-Newstead Senior Center.

The Erie County Department of Senior Services worked with the Akron-Newstead Senior Center and with Rite Aid to help those 16-years and older access the COVID vaccine. The Akron-Newstead Senior Center was  the host site until 3:30 p.m. Friday.

A clinic for just Senior Citizens is set for next Tuesday, with all appointments currently filled for that clinic. Appointments were scheduled in 5 minute intervals, so those with appointments are asked to please arrive approximately 10 minutes before your appointment time (but not earlier). There will be paperwork for you to fill out and you will need to bring a photo ID with date of birth (driver’s license) and both your insurance AND prescription cards. If you are on Medicare, bring your red, white, and blue card.

Please check your temperature— the Center staff will check it again at the clinic and if it is over 100 degrees, you cannot receive a shot. Organizers recommend that you wear short sleeves, or something that you can easily roll up as the shot is given in your upper deltoid.

The Akron-Newstead Senior Center is located at 5691 Cummings Rd, Akron, NY 14001. Please enter through the main doors of the senior center and you will be directed where to go.

The vaccine that is being used is the Pfizer vaccine and will require a second vaccine, which will be administered 3 weeks from the date of your first shot at the same location and at the same appointment time.

CALL the center at 542-6645 for information.
