• Antique Appraisal

    Newstead Town Hall 5 Clarence Center Road, Akron, NY

    Newstead Historical Society welcomes antiques expert Gary Harkness who will do appraisals for those attending and will share his expertise. Participants are encouraged to bring their early glass, pottery, bottles, redware, stoneware, folk art, primitives, advertising signs or whatever items they have. There will be a two dollar per appraisal donation and a limit of two items per person. The program takes place at the Newstead Town Hall, 5 Clarence Center Rd.  All Covid protocols in place at the time of the meeting will be observed.

    Akron Elementary Choir, under the direction of Kim Stachowski,  will offer festive holiday songs in the Gazebo at 3:30 p.m.   Deputy Mayor Darrin Folger and wife Lynn Folger will light the tree with help from Santa and Mrs. Claus as well as Superintendent of Akron Central Schools Patrick McCabe, at 4 p.m. Area merchants on Main Street will be open to assist customers with their Holiday shopping until 8 p.m. Saturday offering specials and samples for you to enjoy.

  • New Year’s Eve Ball Drop

    The Akron Celebration Committee is happy to bring back New Year’s Eve in Russell Park. The “Family Friendly” festivities begin at 11:30 p.m. with music, hats and more. There will be a ball drop at midnight to welcome in 2022, followed by an incredible fireworks display. This is an alcohol-free gathering and glass bottles are prohibited. The event is funded entirely through donations. Without community support and our volunteers, these traditions would not be possible. Donations can be made to the Akron Celebration Committee, PO Box 16, Akron NY 14001. We wish everyone a safe and healthy 2022.
