The Akron School Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26 in the high school cafeteria or on Zoom.
The VFW Post 3180 will host a Gravesite Flag Placement beginning with a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at the Post, located at 35 Lewis Road. At 9 a.m., volunteers will pick up flags and ceremony assignments at the VFW and place flags thru 11 a.m.
West Shore Market, a collaboration with the Village of Akron and Akron Chamber of Commerce, will open this Sunday, May 30. Vendors wanting to participate may apply on the West Shore Market website. The Market is designed to support all local businesses, organizations and individuals and organizers welcome anyone with a passion for what they do. It will be open on the triangle of Village of Akron property at Cedar Street and Eckerson Ave. on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Starting the last weekend in May through the last Sunday in October. The Calvary Baptist Church, 12752 Lewis Road, Akron, will host a Veterans Church Service at 10 a.m. Veterans, family and friends and are invited to a patriotic service honoring those who have served in the U.S. military. Guest speaker David Freeman will talk about those who gave their lives in service to their country and why Memorial Day still matters to us.
The Akron-Newstead Seniors will host a Chicken BBQ at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 30 at Russell Park. Tickets are $10 pre-sale and $12 the day of the event.
The Akron Rotary Club will host a Memorial Day Fly-In Pancake Breakfast at the Akron Airport's Jesson Field from 8 a.m. to noon on Monday, May 31. Tickets are $8 for Age 12 & Up, $5 for kids ages 5-12 and free for children under 5. Proceeds benefit the Rotary Scholarship Program at Akron High School.
The Akron-Newstead Memorial Day Parade will be held at 9 a.m. and begin on Main Street, followed by ceremonies in Russell Park and behind the Akron Fire Hall.
The Akron Lady Lions are planning their second annual Golf Tourney at Destroyer Park Golf, Sandhill Road in Akron, on Saturday, June 5. Music will be provided by DJ Don; door prizes; adult beverage tent; food trucks; basket raffles and silent auctions are part of the event. The Lady Lions are offering two game options this year: an Early Bird Round begins with registration at 2 p.m. with a 3 p.m. shotgun start. A Night Owl Round begins with registration at 6 p.m. and a shotgun start at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at Market on Main, 77 Main St.,
