Akron Central School Board of Education members adopted goals for the 25-26 school year during their October 1 Board meeting.  The goals were developed at a Board workshop and build on last year’s goals. The Board Philosophy serving as a foundation for the goals is: “As a board, we are committed to remaining fiscally conservative, focused on long-term sustainability for facilities, transportation and personnel that best benefits the instruction and experiences of our students.”

The Akron Central School year began last week with inspirational messages for students and staff.  Board of Education President Erik Polkowski delivered “an inspiring Opening Address that perfectly set the tone for our year ahead, focused on leadership and the dreams of our students,” Superintendent of Schools Andrea Kersten Taylor told Board of Education members at their meeting on September 3. Noting what she described as a Historic Milestone Kersten said.  “We celebrated Mary Borden’s remarkable 50th first day of school, with her family joining us for this incredible achievement. Akron Central School District voters passed a  budget, authorized the purchase of  buses and elected three Board of Education members Tuesday.

Five candidates are running for three-year terms on the Akron Central School Board of Education.  The three-year terms of present Board of Education members Ryan Allen, Heather Cayea and Kristy Pingitore will expire on June 30, 2025. In order of how they will appear on the ballot, the candidates seeking those board seats are Chandra Jagielo, Julie Matusek, Heather Cayea, Connor Borchert, and Kristy Pingitore.
