Akron Central School Board of Education members held their organizational meeting for 2023-2024 school year on Wednesday, July 5.  New Board members Joe Cena and Stephanie Coffta, elected during the annual meeting in May were sworn in, and the board held an election of officers. Erik Polkowski was elected as President and Philip Kenline was elected Vice-President.

Akron Central School Superintendent of Schools Patrick D. McCabe announced this morning that due to forecasted extreme weather conditions, the Akron Central School District will be closed, including all afterschool activities, on Friday, December 23, 2022.  “We understand that the decision to close schools has a big effect on all members of our school community. It is our hope that early notification allows families additional time to make the necessary arrangements for work and childcare,” McCabe said. “We wish you and your family a happy and safe holiday season.”

Musicians from fifty-two school districts as well as 130 teachers representing the four counties of Western New York will descend upon Akron Central School as it once again hosts the 2022 New York State School Music Association’s (NYSSMA) Junior High Area All State Music Festival on November 4th and 5th.  The concerts will be held on Saturday, November 5, at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. in the Edward Allen Auditorium at Akron Schools, 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, Akron. Akron Central Student representatives from the Elementary, Middle, and High Schools appeared at the Board of Education meeting Wednesday, October 19 to say “thank you” for their support.  They brought cards signed by students, performed a musical selection, and were featured in a video recognizing the Board for their efforts on behalf of the entire district. School Board Appreciation Week was observed October 17 to 21, 2022, in New York. Akron Central School will maintain its single point of entry to the building for the new school year beginning September 6, 2022, the opening day of school for 2022-23.  The Board of Education and the Safety Committee have implemented a system for visitors to the District between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  School Security Officers (SSO) will continue to facilitate the program.

This afternoon, Akron Central School Superintendent of Schools, Patrick McCabe released information and links to information relative to the New York Department of Health and New York State Education Department updated the COVID-19 Guidance for Schools based on the CDC’s most recent operational guidance for schools, as released August 22.
