Village of Akron crews put the Christmas garland and lights up along the Main Street business district last week.  The Wreaths and garland welcome those coming in to check on the unique shops already decked out in holiday attire with many gift ideas for everyone on your list.  Shops are already welcoming patrons looking to get an early start on their shopping far away from the crowds.  Businesses are also preparing for “Light Up Akron,” on December 10 when Santa will be in town as music, a parade, good food, holiday lights, and great shopping are all on the schedule.

33rd Annual Christmas Auction set for Friday

Tickets are available for the Annual Christmas Auction hosted by the Rotary Club of Akron-Newstead, scheduled for Friday, December 2, 2022.  The event, held at the Akron Fire Hall, 1 Main Street, Akron, New York will continue the club’s 33 year long tradition of making sure Christmas comes to those facing difficult times. New refuse, recycling contract moves forward

Newstead Town Board members have approved a new refuse, recycling contract with Modern Disposal effective in January. If approved by the Village of Akron Board of Trustees the contract will go into effect in January of 2023. Information on changes for pickup, including new 95/96 gallon carts, will be shared in the new year with an expected implementation of spring 2023.

Clean up on Main Street

Village of Akron crews are working to clean up and decorate the Main Street business district this Tuesday morning (November 22). Snow removal is opening up sidewalk access so area residents can easily access local businesses, already in the holiday spirit. The crews are also hanging the lights and garland that add a festive touch.
