Read moreTown of Newstead and Village of Akron residents are being asked to stay off of the roads. Emergency Manager Dan Kowalik reports that the travel ban continues and those ignoring it are putting themselves and others at risk. Kowalik said non-essential vehicles continue to venture out, getting stuck, blocking roadways. “This delays our ability to clear the roads and get power crews to those still without electricity,” Kowalik said. “We are already into the middle of the week before we can get everything open and each stuck vehicle increases that timeline.” Loaders are working to open up the roads so
Read moreTravel bans in the Town of Newstead and Village of Akron remain in place this morning as crews continue to work to open up main roads. They are hampered by significant drifts and vehicles stuck in the roadways. The Town of Newstead is being assisted by a local company with hi-lifts in the efforts. Around 300 Town residents do not have power and there as some internet outages as well. Town of Newstead Supervisor David Cummings indicates the situation is difficult and everyone is doing their best to clear the roads. The Genesee County Sheriff issued an update this morning
