New refuse, recycling contract moves forward

Newstead Town Board members have approved a new refuse, recycling contract with Modern Disposal effective in January. If approved by the Village of Akron Board of Trustees the contract will go into effect in January of 2023. Information on changes for pickup, including new 95/96 gallon carts, will be shared in the new year with an expected implementation of spring 2023.

Clean up on Main Street

Village of Akron crews are working to clean up and decorate the Main Street business district this Tuesday morning (November 22). Snow removal is opening up sidewalk access so area residents can easily access local businesses, already in the holiday spirit. The crews are also hanging the lights and garland that add a festive touch.

The Good for the Neighborhood event scheduled for tonight, Thursday, November 17 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. the Center is cancelled. No rescheduled date is available at this time.  University Express Program rescheduled The University Express program planned for Friday, November 18 – 1:00 p.m. – Presidents in Buffalo: Unusual and Unknown Stories; is cancelled. It is rescheduled for Wednesday, December 7th.

Prestigious conductors to direct NYSSMA Music Festival hosted by Akron Central

Musicians from fifty-two school districts as well as 130 teachers representing the four counties of Western New York will descend upon Akron Central School as it once again hosts the 2022 New York State School Music Association’s (NYSSMA) Junior High Area All State Music Festival on November 4th and 5th.  The concerts will be held on Saturday, November 5, at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. in the Edward Allen Auditorium at Akron Schools, 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, Akron.
