The Community is invited to attend the Community Christmas Tree Lighting, now scheduled for Saturday, December 18, 2021, in the Gazebo in Russell Park. Akron Elementary Choir, under the direction of Kim Stachowski, will offer festive holiday songs in the Gazebo at 3:30 p.m. Deputy Mayor Darrin Folger and wife Lynn Folger will light the tree with help from Santa and Mrs. Claus as well as Superintendent of Akron Central Schools Patrick McCabe, at 4 p.m. There will not be a Light up Akron parade this year. Main Street businesses open until 8.

Updates from the Akron Chamber of Commerce indicate that Akron First United Methodist Church will still hold their cookie sale Saturday morning as well as their drive-through spaghetti dinner and basket raffle. The Chamber also reports that Akron Merchants have decided they want to continue with Moonlight Shopping. They will be open until 8 p.m. Saturday evening.
