Board of Education adopts goals for 25-26

Akron Central School Board of Education members adopted goals for the 25-26 school year during their October 1 Board meeting. The goals were developed at a Board workshop and build on last year’s goals. The Board Philosophy serving as a foundation for the goals is: “As a board, we are committed to remaining fiscally conservative, focused on long-term sustainability for facilities, transportation and personnel that best benefits the instruction and experiences of our students.”

This Halloween season, the Akron Chamber of Commerce. with the support of village merchants, plans to “spook up” the Main Street business district by sponsoring a scarecrow contest. Walking down Main Street this month you can see many different scarecrow types all designed and put up by various area businesses. Those not located on Main Street are also invited to set up a scarecrow on Main Street. Local First responders called to scene of bus crash on I-90

East Pembroke, Millgrove, Newstead, Akron, and Wolcottsville were among local fire companies called to assist following a serious bus crash on the NYS Thruway Friday afternoon. The New York State Police are investigating the crash that occurred on Interstate 90 eastbound between exits 48A and 49 in the town of Pembroke, Genesee County. Preliminary reports indicate the bus, carrying more than 50 passengers, overturned. Multiple individuals have been injured, with several confirmed fatalities.
