The Village of Akron has announced that due to a garage fire that occurred in the Village today, there may be some discoloration in the water due to the high pull on the system from the fire hydrants. FIRE SAFETY WEEK – Akron Central Elementary School students participated in Fire Safety Week activities October 7-10, 2025. Local First responders called to scene of bus crash on I-90

East Pembroke, Millgrove, Newstead, Akron, and Wolcottsville were among local fire companies called to assist following a serious bus crash on the NYS Thruway Friday afternoon. The New York State Police are investigating the crash that occurred on Interstate 90 eastbound between exits 48A and 49 in the town of Pembroke, Genesee County. Preliminary reports indicate the bus, carrying more than 50 passengers, overturned. Multiple individuals have been injured, with several confirmed fatalities. The Akron Police Department has learned of a text messaging campaign that appears to be a data collection agency. The campaign asks residents of Akron to click a link and answer a survey. APD is encouraging everyone to delete and not click on any links from unknown senders.

Genesee County Sheriff’s Office investigating a fatal collision on Bloomingdale Road

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal one car vehicle collision that occurred on Bloomingdale Road in the Town of Alabama on July 20, 2025 .  The Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center received the 9-1-1 call reporting the personal injury accident at 3:14 p.m. Upon arrival, patrols identified the operator of the vehicle as Justin J. Blasko, age 36, of Akron, New York.  Blasko was the operator and sole occupant of a black 1998 BMW 4 door sedan traveling eastbound on Bloomingdale Road.
