The Good for the Neighborhood event scheduled for tonight, Thursday, November 17 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. the Center is cancelled. No rescheduled date is available at this time.  University Express Program rescheduled The University Express program planned for Friday, November 18 – 1:00 p.m. – Presidents in Buffalo: Unusual and Unknown Stories; is cancelled. It is rescheduled for Wednesday, December 7th.

Akron/Newstead Senior Center phasing in programing

The Akron/Newstead Senior Center, Cummings Road, Akron re-opened on July 8 with new restrictions.  The temporary hours are: Monday:   8 to 4 p.m. Tuesday:   8 to 4 p.m. Wednesday:  8 to 4 p.m. Thursday 8 to 7 p.m. Friday:  8 to 4 p.m. No Saturday hours Programs and activities will be slowly introduced with adherence to the following guidelines required: Facemasks are required while in all common areas of the building Social distancing Hand sanitizing or washing of hands upon entering and exiting the building Temperatures will be checked  A sign in log upon entering the building At

Town of Newstead Highway resumes full work schedule under COVID-19 guidelines

The weekly COVID-19 Akron/Newstead Public Safety Team reports to Town of Newstead and Village of Akron Emergency Services Coordinator Dan Kowalik announced the Town of Newstead’s highway department return to a full-time work schedule on Monday, April 27.  The department is working 4 ten-hour days (Monday through Thursday).  Daily temperature monitoring and other COVID-19 protocols are in place.

Erie County Senior Services, partners announce Hearts and Hands ready to assist with transporation and deliveries

EC Office for People with Disabilities joins Senior Services, community partners in new effort ERIE COUNTY, NY— Recently the Erie County Department of Senior Services, in conjunction with the Erie County Office for People with Disabilities, announced a partnership with Hearts and Hands: Faith in Action, the IDEA Center at the University at Buffalo, Wegmans and others to assist with transportation, deliveries, and social connection needs for seniors and the disabled.  The Health Foundation for Western and Central New York, Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (“NFTA”) and AARP also support the effort to create opportunities for volunteers to connect older adults

Happy Birthday Ray

SOCIAL DISTANCING BIRTHDAY PARADE – Many turned out to wish Ray Cheavacci a Happy 84th Birthday at his Carney Road home last Wednesday afternoon (April 1). A car caravan bearing balloons and signs of birthday wishes, as well as fire trucks, helped the Town of Newstead resident celebrate while keeping a safe distance.
