Route 93 from Route 5 to the Niagara County Line is now closed. APD And the AFC fire chief advised Town of Newstead and Village of Akron Emergency Manager of two disabled tractor trailers stuck in the roadway. There is currently a travel ban in both the Village of Akron and Town of Newstead.

Tickets are available for the Annual Christmas Auction hosted by the Rotary Club of Akron-Newstead, scheduled for Friday, December 2, 2022. The event, held at the Akron Fire Hall, 1 Main Street, Akron, New York will continue the club’s 33 year long tradition of making sure Christmas comes to those facing difficult times. Newstead Town Board members have approved a new refuse, recycling contract with Modern Disposal effective in January. If approved by the Village of Akron Board of Trustees the contract will go into effect in January of 2023. Information on changes for pickup, including new 95/96 gallon carts, will be shared in the new year with an expected implementation of spring 2023.

The West Shore Farmers Market is watching the weather, and planning to continue into October on a week to week basis. The market, which began in 2021 at the corner of Cedar & Eckerson. is now located in Russell Park from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sundays. Vendors offer produce, baked goods, home decor, clothing and a variety of hand-crafted items.
