This week’s Akron Tiger Athlete of the Week is junior Whitley Koopman of the varsity girls swim team. Koopman is a second-year varsity swimmer who has made huge improvements this season.  Her efforts have secured her a place at both the Niagara-Orleans All-League and Genesee Region/Niagara Orleans championship meets to close out the season. Whitley has greatly improved in the freestyle events, dropping 3 seconds in her 50 Freestyle, 10 seconds in her 100 Freestyle, and 20 seconds from her 200 Freestyle times. The Akron Tiger teams were back at it for a full week of competition following the holiday break!  Selected Tiger Athletes of the Week are Elden Ground of the varsity boys swim team and Olivia Novak of the varsity girls basketball team. Senior Elden Ground is having an exceptional season. “Elden can swim just about anything across the board,” said Coach Andrea Toussaint.  “His goal this year is to swim every event before he graduates from high school!” Thus far, he has swum the 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, and 100 Butterfly and has successfully met the

The Akron Tiger teams are in the thick of the season.   Selected Tiger Athletes of the Week are Derren Brooks of the varsity boys basketball team and Madigan Regan of the varsity girls swim team. Brooks, a sophomore, plays forward for the Tigers. In their only game last week Derren posted 13 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks.  Derren has also posted a single game high of 28 points in an overtime win during the Jack and Joyce Silvernail Annual Holiday Basketball Tournament at Akron High School.  “Derren has really become a key member of our team success.

Two Akron Tigers have been selected for this week’s Athlete of the Week honor for their performances since December 16th through the holiday break.  James Crooks of the varsity wrestling team and Benjamin Gerstung from the varsity basketball team have been selected. James Crooks is a junior matman in his fourth year with the Tigers varsity team.  Crooks earned the first place trophy at the 56th Annual Jerry K. Drayer Memorial Wrestling Tournament hosted by Akron on December 28th.  Crooks wrestles in the highly competitive heavyweight class. In the first round of the tournament James pinned his opponent from Frontier
