Concert celebrates rededication of pipe organ at Akron First UMC
Akron First UMC fills Sanctuary with Joy and Music at Organ Concert and Rededication
The sanctuary of Akron First United Methodist Church rang with powerful notes and heartfelt praise on Sunday evening, June 22, during a special Pipe Organ Concert and Rededication Service celebrating the restoration of the church’s historic pipe organ. An enthusiastic audience gathered to enjoy performances by guest organists Debby Clark, Patricia Payne, and Mark Niewiemski, who brought the newly restored instrument to life with a moving program of classical organ music and sacred hymns. The congregation joined in singing beloved hymns, filling the church with a sense of reverence, unity, and joy.
In addition to the music, attendees learned about the organ’s fascinating history. Originally purchased from the Schlicker Pipe Organ Company of Buffalo in 1945 and installed in 1947, the organ contains 844 Möller pipes. Church lore holds that additional pipes were later added from the Larkin Soap Company organ after its building was demolished in 1950.
After decades of faithful service, the instrument was restored in 2025 by Parsons Organ Builders of Canandaigua, NY. The evening included a rededication led by Pastor Pam Klotzbach, honoring the organ’s enduring role in worship and dedicating it “to God, the Master Artist, who sings over creation the song of redeeming grace.”
Guests enjoyed fellowship and refreshments following the concert. Many shared memories of the organ’s music over the years, expressing deep appreciation for its renewed voice and the legacy it carries forward.
Akron First United Methodist Church extends heartfelt thanks to the guest organists, restoration team, and all who attended this memorable celebration. The evening was a beautiful reminder of the power of music to connect hearts, inspire worship, and honor our shared history. Plans are already in the works for future concerts.
