Confirmed COVID-19 cases up 23 in past week
COVID-19 updates on Tuesday indicated another increase in local cases, although slowed a bit from the previous week.
The confirmed number of new weekly cases in the 14001 Zip Code rose by 23 with a total of 638 since March 2020.
That follows three weeks of increase with 27 the previous week and two consecutive weeks of 19 case increases.
Town of Newstead/Village of Akron Emergency Manager, Dan Kowalik, reminds local residents they need to continue to be smart and follow the recommendations being sent forth by the local health officials.
Both the Town of Newstead and Village of Akron have been under States of Emergency since March of this year due to the public health crisis caused by the Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
The continuing health crisis has the potential of threatening or imperiling the public safety of the residents and businesses in the Town and Village and the State of Emergency puts local government and other public safety agencies in a position to respond quicker and have more access to resources during the COVID-19 situation as it evolves.
New Yorkers 16 years of age and older are now eligible to receive the vaccine. Limited supply from the federal government means that New Yorkers still need to remain patient. If you are among those who become eligible, check New York State’s Am I Eligible website to find an appointment (if available) at a State-run vaccination site near you, or call 1-833-NYS-4-VAX. VaccineFinder, a website affiliated with the CDC and Boston Children’s Hospital, can also help eligible New Yorkers find vaccination locations.
