Confirmed COVID cases continue to climb in 14001

Erie County data on Wednesday, December 8 shows the number of confirmed new COVID-19 cases in the 14001 zip code continues to climb.  There was an increase of 64 cases over the past week, the highest in a one-week period since March of 2020.  There were 40 new cases the previous week, following a week with 35 new cases.  The community total is now and a community total of 1160 since March of 2020.

Erie County reports the total number of residents vaccinated is now 69.3 percent, up from 68.6 last week, according to Town of Newstead/Village of Akron Emergency Manager, Dan Kowalik.

Both the Town of Newstead and Village of Akron have re-issued a State of Emergency for thirty days due to the public health crisis caused by the Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The continuing health crisis has the potential of threatening or imperiling the public safety of the residents and businesses in the Town and Village and the State of Emergency puts local government and other public safety agencies in a position to respond quicker and have more access to resources during the COVID-19 situation as it evolves.

Erie County has a mask mandate for indoor spaces in place.
