David A. Ross

David A. Ross peacefully passed away on September 12, 2021. He was born on April 22, 1939 to the late Adrian and Mary (Slack) Ross.

Dave was a graduate of Akron High School, Niagara University, and Simmons Mortuary School going on to join his father in the family business. He was a funeral director for over 50 years, mentoring two of his sons and a granddaughter into the field and specializing in the care of the Native American residents of the Tonawanda Indian Reservation.

In addition to his decades of service as a funeral director, David spent time working as an Erie County Sheriff, as an ambulance driver, and owned and operated the Ross Paint & Wallpaper store where he worked side by side with his father.

David was also a Village of Akron Trustee, Akron Central School bus driver, a member of the Akron Lion’s Club, the Elks, and the Rotary Club of Akron-Newstead. He loved traveling and the beach, especially his annual visits to Myrtle Beach with his children.

David was also an avid Bills fan, cheering the team on every Sunday surrounded by his family. Dave was well known as a jokester and always loved to make people smile.

Loving father of Michael (Debbie) Ross, Elizabeth Palizay, David (late Mini) Ross, Late Shawn (Dawn) Ross, Charlie (Laura) Ross, Katie (John) Connell, Colleen (Pat Jenkins) Ross, Debbie Anderson, Chris Hake, and Shandra Hake. Cherished grandfather of Maison Ross, Madisyn Ross, Paul (Carrie) Palizay, Mary Palizay, Matthew Palizay, Joshua (Andrea) Ross, Jordan (Tim) Creed, Hanna Ross, Adrian Ross, Stephen Ross, Sean Connell, Liam Connell, Fiona Connell, Devon (Jimmy) Petti, Carl Jenkins, Marshall Jenkins, Patrick Naughton, and Collin Naughton. Proud great-grandfather of Julia, Keira, and Waylon Palizay; Payton Palizay, Kennedy and Reese Sundown; Maren, Sibilla, and Atlas Creed; Autumn, Willow, and Ivy Connell; and Cecilia Petti. Dear brother of Bryan (Mary Jane) Ross and Judy (Ray) Gori. Dave is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and his dear friend, Sue Nicholas. David was predeceased by his first wife, Marsha (Dickinson) Ross, and late wife, Sylvia (Sutton) Ross.

Friends and relatives may call on Monday, September 20, from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC.
