David A. Ross II

David A. Ross II, known affectionately as D.R., Kunta, or simply Dave among his friends and family, passed away on September 12, 2024. A man of intelligence and wit, David could always be counted on to lighten the mood with his sense of humor.

He was a true movie buff, especially fond of Forrest Gump and The Blues Brothers. His uncanny ability to seamlessly weave movie quotes into everyday conversation never failed to bring a smile to those around him, and showcased his vast knowledge and love for cinema.

Dave was born on February 9, 1963 to the late David and Marsha (Dickinson) Ross as the third child of seven. David was a third-generation Funeral Director who graduated from Akron Central High School in 1982. He was popular among his peers, a testament to his funny and charming nature. Later, he attended the State University of New York at Canton, where he obtained his Funeral Director’s license in 1998.

David was a dedicated member of the Wilson Lion’s Club, but his abilities extended far beyond his professional accomplishments. He built a house from the foundation up all by himself; a small showcase of his dedication and hardworking nature. David had a zest for life that was infectious. Playing Euchre, telling jokes, or simply puttering around his house brought him immense joy. He had a profound love for his pets, Impala, Buddy, Misty, and Kitten, cherishing them each as part of his family.

He is survived by his siblings, Michael (Debbie) Ross, Elizabeth Palizay, Late Shawn (Dawn) Ross, Charlie (Laura) Ross, Katie (John) Connell, Colleen (Pat Jenkins) Ross, and Shandra Hake; 18 nieces and nephews and 15 great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his stepson, Christopher Hansen and his grandson, Gabe. He is predeceased by his wife Arlene (Minnie Hansen) Ross, his brother, Shawn Ross, and stepmother, Sylvia Ross.

A Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 5771 Buell Street, Akron, NY 14001. Donations may be made in Dave’s memory to Niagara Hospice or the S.P.C.A.
