David L. Harrington

David L. Harrington, “Putt,” passed away on August 3, 2024. He was born on June 13, 1939, in Batavia, New York, to the late Leonard and Louise Harrington. A lifelong resident of Akron, NY, David was a beloved member of the community for more than eight decades.

David and Kathryn (Daniels) embarked on their lifelong journey together on January 8, 1965. Over nearly 60 years, they weathered life’s challenges hand in hand, making each other stronger and creating countless moments of joy and cherished memories.

David was a hardworking man who spent his professional career as the owner and operator of Akron Press and he also took pleasure in driving a school bus for the Akron Central School District for many years.

His dedication to his work was only surpassed by his commitment to his family, which always remained his utmost priority. He found great satisfaction in living a simple life without a credit card, cell phone, or taking the highways.

He found joy in the little things – like a cold Old Milwaukee and a cigarette on the deck, and driving on the back roads in his truck making regular stops around town. The presence of his loyal dog, Sam, was a constant source of comfort and companionship.

David is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn Harrington, his children, Stacy (late Daniel) Quinlan, Patricia Gilgan and David (Amanda) Harrington, seven grandchildren, and his sister, Mary (late James) Bonin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

David’s absence will be deeply felt by all those who had the privilege of knowing him, yet his spirit will continue to serve as a reminder to slow down, appreciate life’s simple pleasures, and prioritize family above all else.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC. Donations can be made in David’s memory to the Akron Fire Company, 1 Buell Street, Akron, NY 14001.
